Abstract

When one watches the urban image of the Chilean cities one can see the importance of the state housing production. In this context the work carried out by the Corporation de la Vivienda CORVI, (Housing Corporation of CORVI) is noticeable. Such work was carried out in the 1953-1973 period, associated to a nationalist project with the state acting as benefactor. Its work expresses ways of thinking and acting which form school of architectonic design having also a relationship to the legitimization of a statute for housing dignity. The architectonic work of this school combine desired social elements, elements of rational politics and techno-instrumental elements which must be acknowledged and valued in order to support future actions to improve the urban image. From the analysis work, it is possible to construct critical referents as regards the residential doctrines and actual design practices for social housing.
