Abstract

The Solidarity development Program from the Banco del Desarrollo aims at providing financial and training support to low income women in Chile. This is done through a solidarity credit with no other guarantee than trust, responsibility and solidarity. The program Works with groups formed by at least 8 women who do not have access to the traditional bank system because they cannot demonstrate they have a stable income. The financial support is done through solidarity credits. The training consists in working with the women before credit is granted and then there are periodical checks done until the credit is re paid. Up to now more than 10.000 women have taken part in the program. More than 6.000 women have used these loans to improve their life quality and more than 2 million dollars have been used.
